Winged Ambassadors

Would you like to have a bird of prey visit your classroom, club meeting or special event? Our Winged Ambassadors program can bring a live owl to your group for a lively, interactive learning experience. Presentations can be tailored for audiences of any age.

Because the owls are kept outside and acclimate to Fairbanks’ cold winter temperatures, I am only able to take them to classrooms and other locations from late March through mid-October.

Classroom Visits

This one-hour program introduces students to Alaska’s owls and their amazing adaptations, diet, nesting behavior, vocalizations and life cycle. Our Winged Ambassadors help illustrate the lessons and stimulate lively discussion about the importance of owls in our environment. Teaching tools such as skulls, feathers, wings and owl pellets are also used to promote learning.

This program will be most beneficial if your students have some lessons on owls in advance of our visit. There is a wealth of information and educator resources about owls on the Internet, including sources for obtaining owl pellets for dissection. Please visit my Links page for ideas.

Fee: $35 for a one-hour presentation. Extra fee if outside the Fairbanks area.

Special Events

As my schedule allows, I can bring an owl to special events that have a conservation or wildlife education theme, such as library programs, nature camps or artists workshops. I am also happy to participate in some "walk-by" programs, such as visiting with guests at Fairbanks hotels or special events such as Earth Day programs.

Fees: Waived for nonprofit organizations, although donations are greatly appreciated. $80 fee for for-profit entities.

Service Club Visits

I can present a program to your service club that includes a PowerPoint presentation and/or an appearance by one of our Winged Ambassadors.

No fee, but donations are welcome.
